We All Are Addicts!
What if I tell we all are addicts, we all are targets of behavioral abuse?; What if I tell you why do we have the extreme itch to check our phone?; Why do we feel so good when someone likes or comments on our pictures?; Why do we want to have "winner winner chicken dinner"? Why you can play Fortnite for hours?; Why sex or watching porn is pleasurable?; Why eating new KFC chicken zinger feels so good?; or Why motivation for working gets low?
Root answer to all these questions is one. But, before diving into that answer, first I will tell you why I called us addicts and target of behavioral abuse; We are digital addicts, and our behavior towards our social media account, is no less than behavioral abuse.
Stay with me, and you will understand everything I am talking about;
We are digital addicts: advanced technology is leaving an influential impact on our mental state. Over 3.96 billion people are on social media. Most of them have their lives revolve around it. As humans, we have a general behavior of relating things as things lost their value without comparison. If I ask your skin color, your answer will be relative to others.
No-one can stop this behavior of comparison. Social media is the platform where you compare yourself every second with life's you don't know about; you follow all these fancy accounts and your friends, they post a picture of their happy moments, or their best picture out 100 pictures they clicked. Now, what happens, as soon as you see their post: your brain immediately relate it to your place, and you might feel bad. Doing this invariably can leave some influential impact on your mental wellness.
Let's flight to the mystery of addiction to digital addicts,
Design and updates of social media are in such a way that you can become an addict. Suppose you posted a new picture and you start getting all these likes and comments that make you feel good about yourself, everyone loves to receive feedback; Your post get instant likes and comments which makes you feel happy, this is game of instant gratification.
Studies have shown that likes and comments after posting a picture on Instagram or any other social media stimulate the same region where you feel pleasure for sex or before eating a delicious meal. Every organism on earth has to survive and reproduce. For survival: food is our reward, and for reproduction: sex is our reward. The region of the brain, where we feel all the anticipation for pleasurable activity: is the spot of boosted with DOPAMINE.
DOPAMINE is the root answer to the question above, to all the addictions that humans can ever have. Increased levels of dopamine can lead to addiction; this is what all the social media apps focus on to do: to increase the usage of the apps. Instant gratification increase levels of dopamine. Likes and comments act as rewards of our action, which helps us to learn the behavior of scrolling through the infinity of social media apps; there is no end in Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Keep scrolling; you will never reach the end.
Social media apps act as are teenagers or adults pacifiers. When you are bored, lonely, nothing in hand to do, we go and scroll.
DOPAMINE works in such a way as soon as you get the result you crave for more, you need something to increase your levels or the same thing over and over. Post picture again, maybe?
Let's dive into the advancement of "winner winner chicken dinner." Every time you fire you get an instant result, make your fire more and stay in the ring. You get all the badges and labels every time you level up. REWARDS!
Drugs like cocaine and heroin directly stimulate the levels of dopamine; After the effect is gone, they crave more and more. Increased levels of dopamine are rewards to the brain to learn the behavior of craving for more and seizing it. Dopamine cells use the reward pathway of the brain to learn a behavior.
Notifications act as big surprise signals that strive for attention to fabricate your concentration. Your mind is vulnerable to that moment: it's a reinforcement that gives a quick rise to the level of dopamine. Yes! REWARDS again, here you go, learning another behavior of checking notifications every second.
Understanding the effect of increased levels of neurotransmitters is the first step to the recognition of the problem. I hope you understood how this advanced technology is working so efficiently to reward you and to make you an addict.

Why motivation for working don't stay for a much longer time?
If I ask you to choose between cake and carrot what will you choose? I guess cake, it tastes good, consuming it makes your dopamine level go up and which makes it easier;
But the carrot is healthy and produces benefits, that doesn't give instant gratification. So, dopamine levels don't rise. Which makes it hard to choose. But, in the long run, the effects are more fruitful. Be hungry.
In the end, I don't conclude that do not reward yourself but rewarding to the extent it becomes an addiction, doesn't reward in the long run.
DOPAMINE DETOXIFICATION is a real thing, taking a break from social media might seem hard at first but leads to some very positive changes. Take breaks and recognize the problem, remember the effects of things that happen for your action.
DO THE HARD RESET (dopamine detoxification)
Addictions are severe, they are not a moral crisis, it is biological and won't change until we are humans. Make sure you acknowledge the problem and make an effort to do something about it.
